General FAQ

We recognise that there are quite a few questions when you buy or rent a keg fridge or a keg for the first time.

Please take a moment to peruse the most frequently asked questions below.

How many beers are in a keg?

Each 49.5L keg renders approximately 115 schooners or 175 pots of beer; each 20L keg renders 47 schooners 70 pots of beer. That's quite a few rounds to share with your mates!

At what temperature should I keep the keg?

The ideal temperature is 1-3°C. If the temperature rises above this, your beer may become foamier as the warmer temperature liberates the CO2. If you keep the temperature too cold, you won’t be able to experience the true flavour and aroma of each pour. If the temperature falls below -2°C, then your beer will likely freeze.

How long does draught beer remain fresh with CO2?

Whilst each beer is slightly different, a good rule of thumb is that the shelf life for a keg of pasteurised beer is about 3-4 months, and unpasteurised draft beer will last about 6-8 weeks when stored at the proper temperature.

What is the ideal CO2 gas pressure?

Whilst there are several variables to consider, the rule of thumb for most beers is 9-12psi or 60-80kPa. Too much pressure will leave you with foamy beer that pours too quickly. To resolve this problem, adjust your regulator pressure to the correct level and use the coupler to release the extra pressure from the keg. If the pressure is left too high for too long, CO2 will be forced into the beer resulting in permanently over-carbonated and excessively foamy beer.

What type of keg coupler does the keg require?

The majority of Australian kegs require either a D-type coupler for the CUB portfolio or an A-type coupler for the Lion portfolio. The majority of kegs from independent breweries also tend to use an A-type coupler.

What keg brands do you offer?
